About DeepDots Ventures
Seed-stage investors backing the next generation of developer tools and collaboration platforms since 2021.
Why We Started DeepDots
DeepDots Ventures was founded on a simple but powerful thesis: the software tools developers use every day are among the most defensible and high-value businesses in technology. When a developer tool becomes embedded in a team's workflow, it creates deep, lasting retention and a platform for continuous expansion.
We started DeepDots in 2021 to back the founders building these essential platforms at the earliest stages. Our team brings together expertise in enterprise software, developer productivity, and venture capital to support founders from the very first check.
Our June 2021 Seed Round of $160M, anchored by Index Ventures, gave us the resources to build a differentiated franchise in one of the most exciting sectors in technology.
How We Work with Founders
We lead seed rounds and take an active partnership approach with every company we back.
Thesis-Driven
We invest in developer tools and collaboration with conviction. We are not generalist investors — this focus gives us genuine insight into what separates winners from also-rans.
Founder-First
We lead with capital and follow with hands-on support: hiring, go-to-market strategy, customer introductions, and the hard conversations when things do not go as planned.
Early Conviction
Our sweet spot is pre-product or early-traction seed rounds. We are comfortable making high-conviction bets before a company has proven product-market fit.
What We Look For
Great businesses in developer tools share a set of characteristics that we have learned to identify early. They start with a clear pain point that developers experience daily. They solve it with elegance, not complexity. And they grow through genuine word-of-mouth within engineering teams.
We prioritize founders with deep domain expertise and a personal connection to the problem they are solving. The best developer tools are often built by developers who were frustrated enough to build something better.
Developer Obsession
The founding team must deeply understand developer workflows, tooling preferences, and the way great developer tools spread within organizations.
Bottom-Up Distribution
The strongest developer tools products spread from individual developers upward into teams and organizations, not the other way around.
Network Effects or Stickiness
We favor products that become more valuable as more people use them, or that become deeply embedded in critical workflows that are costly to replace.
Ambitious Market Vision
We back founders who are building for very large markets and are not afraid to take on incumbent enterprise software vendors.
